Alton is hometown to Robert Wadlow, who at 8-feet, 11 inches, is the tallest man in the world according to Guinness Book of World Records. The museum itself features artifacts and the story of Alton’s Gentle Giant, as well as preserves Alton’s history and the legend of the Piasa Bird. The revered Piasa Bird, comes from an Illini Indian bluff painting of a dragon-like creature. The museum is closed Mon.-Tues.
