The Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park was saved from development in 1919, by forward thinking William J. Matheson who bought the island. The original caretaker’s home is now the Visitor Center. The site is only accessible by boat. There is a small entrance fee and tour reservations and boat excursions can be found at Robbie’s Marina.
