Nestled in between Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches National Parks is Goblin Valley State Park. This off-the beaten-track destination is well worth the detour. Reminiscent of another planet, thousands of hoodoos and other rock formations dot this incredible landscape sculpted by wind and rain on Entrada sandstone. Goblins, gnomes, or mushrooms? Whatever they remind you of, exploring here will pique your curiosity and put a smile on your face. Three official trails circumnavigate the surreal landscape and you can roam freely around the goblins. Please remember: Leave No Trace and respect the structures. Open year-round, spring and fall offer the best temperatures to visit. Summer temperatures hover in the 90’s and there is little shade, making longer hikes or even walking very strenuous. Winter temperatures remain above freezing most days, but drop at night. At all times, it is recommended to have plenty of water and layered clothing. A visitor center, picnic tables, yurts and camping round out the amenities. There is an entrance fee. Off-highway vehicle riders will find designated trails nearby.

Near Goblin Valley State Park are two great slot canyon hikes. Located in the San Rafael Swell, Little Wildhorse Canyon and Bell Canyon Trails make an 8 mile loop (of course you can simply turn around whenever you want). If you wont be doing the full loop, we suggest you start to the right on Little Wildhorse. This fun moderate trail offers the chance to squeeze through and scramble over rocks and boulders and take in stellar views.
