Bill Baggs Cape State Park is on Key Biscayne, a developed barrier island. The park offers a magnificent swimming beach, fishing, kayaking, hiking trails, concessionaire, restaurant and camping. Just relax to crashing waves, cool ocean spray, and dreamy sunsets. The Cape Florida Lighthouse was built in 1825, and is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. Climb 109 steps to the top for breathtaking 360-degree views on a free tour at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm Thursday to Monday. Birdwatchers rejoice — the park is home to the Cape Florida Banding Station which monitors the migratory birds that stop here along the Atlantic Flyway. Of historic note, Cape Florida was designated a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site.
