Just 12 miles west of Selma is the Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, the site of Alabama’s first State Capital between 1820-1826. A ghost town since the Civil War, many of the remaining buildings are in a state of decay, but fascinating nonetheless. Restoration projects are underway. A resident colony of black vultures adds to the mystique.
